Nobel literature prize jury to announce 2014 award on Thursday

STOCKHOLM – The panel that awards the Nobel Prize in literature says it will announce the winner of the 2014 award on Thursday.

The Swedish Academy by tradition is the last of the Nobel Prize-awarding institutions to confirm the date of the announcement.

The 2014 Nobel Prize announcements start Monday with the medicine prize and end Oct. 13 with the award in economics.

Each prize is worth 8 million Swedish kronor, or about $1.1 million. The awards will be handed out on Dec. 10, the anniversary of the 1896 death of prize creator Alfred Nobel.
