Garbage pickup changes over the holidays

KAMLOOPS – The holidays are here and that usually means enough boxes, wrapping paper and packaging to fill your recycling and garbage bins two or three times over. It is also the time of year when our garbage pickup schedules change and cause delays in curbside pickup.

Pick up will run on a normal schedule through Dec. 24 so for those in zones three and four, which cover much of the Downtown, North Shore, Sahali, Aberdeen, Dufferin and Pineview Valley areas, Thursday and Friday this week is the last chance to get your bins emptied before Christmas.

Garbage and recycling will not be picked up on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 or Jan. 1. After three days with no pickup in just over a week, a normal schedule will resume Jan. 2.

There are depots at Bunker Road at McGill Road and on Ord Road close to Singh Street for dropping off most recycling around the city. You can also drop off recycling during business hours at the Mission Flats Landfill and the Barnhartvale Landfill.

RCMP recommend disposing of larger boxes or packaging that could tip off thieves to your new gifts through the depots, instead of relying on curbside pickup.
