It’s going to get hot in Kamloops this week

KAMLOOPS – A rebuilding high pressure ridge is expected to bring summer weather conditions back to Kamloops this week following the clouds and showers this past weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says the rain wasn’t as widespread as predicted, with Kamloops receiving less than five mm. He says spring precipitation in the Kamloops region can be a challenge to predict, as the nature of low pressure systems in the spring vary compared to fall and winter.

“The precipitation tends to be showery in nature, making it difficult to predict exactly how much rain will fall. Weather systems in the fall and winter tend to be more organized and widespread,” Sekhon says.

Sekhon says temperatures should peak Wednesday, June 12, followed by a developing low pressure system expected to bring the possibility of showers and a thunderstorm on Thursday. Drier conditions are expected in time for the weekend.

The Environment Canada forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud today, June 10, with a high of  25 Celsius. Winds are expected to become west at 20 km/h this afternoon.

Sunny conditions are expected tomorrow with a high reaching 30 C and an overnight low of 14 C.

Wednesday the heat ramps up with an anticipated high of 34 C. Clouds are expected to move in Wednesday night, bringing a 30 per cent chance of showers and a low of 17 C.

Thursday should see a mix of sun and cloud along with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 31 C.

Thursday night may bring clouds and a 60 per cent chance of showers along with an overnight low of 16 C.

It's back to the sunshine on Friday with a high of 29 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 25 C and lows of 11 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
