Okanagan Rail Trail parking lot development planned for Coldstream

COLDSTREAM – Do you want a heritage looking building? Ninety-one or 111 parking stalls? And do you want it to named Coldstream Station or Coldstream Rail Gateway?

These are just some of the questions being put forward to the public by the District of Coldstream at an open house regarding the future development of a parking lot to accommodate visitors using the Okanagan Rail Trail.

The proposed development is slated for 16506 Kalamalka Road, just north of Dutch's Campground. At the open house June 17 the district will be accepting public input on a selection of design ideas and names.

According to the district's website, the proposed parking lot and development will play a "vital role in the ongoing support of the Okanagan Rail Trail while serving as a primary entrance feature into Coldstream."

The open house will showcase several site plans, including a variety of options from 91 to 111 parking stalls, whether a commercial building should be built in heritage or contemporary design and what to name the site. The district is also asking whether the site should contain a visitors centre, year-round or seasonal washrooms and is asking for other suggested uses.

The open house takes place Coldstream Municipal Hall, Monday, June 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The district also has a questionnaire which members of the public can submit by June 28.
