3-year-old girl killed in Puerto Rico shooting

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Police say unidentified people with guns have shot at a vehicle headed to a church service in Puerto Rico and killed a 3-year-old girl inside.

Police spokeswoman Maria del Pilar Bon says Nayelis Sofia Manso died shortly after being taken by paramedics to a hospital following the Saturday night attack. She received three wounds — two of them in her head — as she travelled in the vehicle with her mother and step-father in Parcelas Vieques about 25 miles (40 km) east of San Juan.

Step-father Frankie Osorio was driving the car. The 26-year-old suffered gunshot wounds to his stomach and arms and was taken to a San Juan hospital. The child’s mother was not wounded.

Authorities are investigating the motive for the attack.
