Police investigating person of interest in burning hedge

KELOWNA – RCMP are investigating a person of interest who may have information about how a row of hedges caught fire Monday night.

Kelowna fire crews were called to a home on Raymer Rd. and Grenfell Cres. at around 9:30 after neighbours reported seeing 30 foot flames coming from a dozen tall cedars on the edge of the road.

Police are investigating and Const. Kris Clark says although they have a person of interest, the investigation is still in the very early stage.

“We’ve got a couple things to follow up on but nothing we can really release at this time,” he says.

Clark says at least one gas can was found at the scene but said RCMP are not yet ready to conclude the fire was deliberately set.

“It was human caused, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was deliberate,” he says.
