Crews working on two lightning-caused wildfires east of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Two lightning-caused wildfires that ignited east of Kamloops yesterday have not shown much change overnight.

B.C. Wildfire Service fire information officer Nicole Bonnett says ground crews will be heading to the McNulty Road fire later today, June 14. It is currently listed as being held, meaning the fire is not expected to spread beyond its current boundaries.

Bonnett says when crews first responded yesterday, members of the public had already knocked down the fire.

"It was a single lightning tree strike," she says.

The Wildfire Service is expected to put the McNulty Road fire out later this afternoon.

The fight against the out of control Harper Creek wildfire continues today with ground crews getting air support from helicopters, Bonnett says.

When the fires first broke out, they were named the Pritchard Lake and Willow Road fires. Due to more accurate mapping, the Wildfire Service has changed the names to the McNulty Road and Harper Creek wildfires for a more accurate geopgrahic location.
