Penticton pharmacy provided Opioid Agonist Treatment against the rules
PENTICTON – A Penticton pharmacy has been ordered to restrict sales of some of its drugs following an order imposed by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
The order limits Penticton Sunrise Pharmacy owner Joelle Mbamy from dispensing any narcotic or controlled drug substance intended for opioid agonist treatment, which is a treatment for addiction to opioid drugs.
Mbamy will be restricted from compounding any medication and preparing or dispensing any medication intended for intravenous administration.
The order was issued May 23 and took effect June 7. to allow time for patients to find another pharmacy.
While practicing as a pharmacist, Mbamy is alleged to have shown a continuing pattern of providing Opioid Agonist Treatment without abiding by the legislative requirements. And while practicing as a pharmacist, the college says, she allegedly prepared and dispensed intravenous drug product under unsanitary conditions.
The College of Pharmacists imposes limits and conditions to protect the public during an investigation or pending a hearing of the discipline committee. The orders made relate to matters which are and remain open unless admitted by a pharmacist or determined by the discipline committee.
