Music producer who worked with Whitney Houston is convicted of defrauding investors

NEW YORK, N.Y. – A music producer who worked with stars including Tom Cruise and Whitney Houston has been convicted of ripping off investors in gold and diamonds.

Charles Huggins was convicted Friday of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Federal Judge Sidney Stein ordered Huggins held at least until his sentencing. It’s set for January.

The 68-year-old Huggins lives in Edgewater, New Jersey. He once was married to soul singer Melba Moore.

Huggins was accused of cheating dozens of investors of millions of dollars in a Ponzi scheme. Prosecutors say the scam began as early as 2005 and lasted until 2011.
