Country music star George Canyon named anthem singer for Calgary Flames

CALGARY – Country music artist George Canyon will sing the Canadian anthem at Calgary Flames games this season.

Canyon, a Juno and Canadian Country Music Association Award winner, replaces Heather Liscano. She recently announced she would be stepping down after 16 years of anthem duties with the Flames.

In addition to his music career, the 44-year-old Canyon has film and television acting experience, including a recurring role on the CBC series “Heartland.”

Canyon was born in Nova Scotia but lives in High River, Alta., with his wife and two children.

He will sing the anthem at Scotiabank Saddledome for the first time Oct. 21 when the Flames host the Tampa Bay Lightning.
