West Kelowna RCMP volunteers keeping boats safe this weekend

WEST KELOWNA – West Kelowna RCMP volunteers are starting another season of boat safety check-ups this weekend in an effort to keep the waters disaster-free.

According to a press release, West Kelowna RCMP Community Policing volunteers will be performing boat safety equipment pre-checks before launches starting June 22 at the Gellatly Bay boat launch next to the West Kelowna yacht club on Okanagan Lake.

The safety checks are voluntary for boaters, giving them a chance to find any possible defencies with their craft before they ride into the water.

Volunteers will also be checking for invasive zebra and quagga mussels on boats and trailers.

This is the second year volunteers have checked boats for safety. The program will run until the end of the summer season.
