iN PHOTOS: Hundreds show their Pride in Kelowna

KELOWNA –  In 1969, the LGBT community struck a major blow in the fight for equal rights at the Stonewall riots. 50 years later, the Pride Festival marked the important occasion with a massive turnout.

Hundreds of people filled Stuart Park on June 22 for the Kelowna Pride March. Participants brought signs, flags, and makeup to show their support for the LGBT community.

Marchers moved from Stuart Park to City Park for an afternoon of food, music, and memorabilia.

Mayor Colin Basran was one of many speakers at the event. He thanked the community for giving him a chance to participate in the festival.

"Let's continue to work together and be a shining light," he said.
