Driver hospitalized after driving into barrier and fence at Vernon school

VERNON – RCMP are investigating after a police officer witnessed a 19-year-old drive their vehicle into a concrete barrier and then into a fence at an elementary school Saturday night.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, just after 11 p.m. Saturday, June 22, a police officer doing patrols near Fulton Road and Okanagan Avenue in Vernon, witnessed a vehicle drive into the concrete barrier and then into a fence at Ellison Elementary School.

The 19-year-old driver involved in the single-vehicle collision was transported to hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries, police say.

"The officer in this case is still investigating the collision and the events leading up to it," Const. Kelly Brett said in the release. "There is a possibility that this young gentleman could face criminal or motor vehicle act charges for his alleged reckless driving behaviour."
