
UPDATE: Fatal crash on Trans-Canada near Salmon Arm
SALMON ARM — One person is dead after a fatal collision west of Salmon Arm today prompting the closure of Highway 1 in both directions.
RCMP say in a media release emergency crews responded to a fatal collision at approximately 11:35 a.m. today, June 25, on Highway 1 at 50 Avenue Northwest in Salmon Arm after two pickup trucks collided head-on.
The highway is closed while police and the B.C. Coroners Service investigate the collision.
"At this early stage, the cause of the crash is unknown and nothing has been ruled out," RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Mike Halskov says in the release.
Drive B.C. estimates the highway will reopen by 3 p.m. Detours are available via Highway 97 and Highway 97B.
