Puerto Rico governor bans conversion therapies

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Puerto Rico’s governor has signed an executive order that bans conversion therapies to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of a minor.

Ricardo Rossello said Wednesday that the therapies cause unnecessary harm and suffering. He also urged counsellors and psychologists across the U.S. territory to prohibit service for such therapies.

More than a dozen U.S. states have approved similar bans, and the American Psychological Association opposes therapy seeking to change sexual orientation.
