FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Police in Florida say a man suspected of killing a woman in front of her grandchildren was fatally shot after firing a weapon at officers who ordered him out of his car.
Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Maglione says officers initially used “less lethal methods” when 31-year-old Dytadious Mobley refused to leave his vehicle outside a shopping plaza Wednesday night.
The chief says Mobley fired at officers and an officer fired back, killing him. Two guns were found in Mobley’s vehicle.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate. The officers involved work for a multi-agency fugitive task force.
Police say Mobley was wanted in the January shooting death of 55-year-old Bernice Jefferson. She was killed in front of her daughter and five grandchildren. Mobley fathered three of Jefferson’s grandchildren.
