How major US stock indexes fared Friday

Global stocks soared Friday and reversed the big losses they suffered just a day earlier. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied 746 points in the latest twist in a wild three months for markets.

On Friday:

The S&P 500 index rocketed 84.05 points, or 3.4 per cent, to 2,531.94.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 746.94 points, or 3.3 per cent, to 23,433.16.

The Nasdaq composite rallied 275.35 points, or 4.3 per cent, to 6,738.86.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks leaped 49.92 points, or 3.8 per cent, to 1,380.75.

For the week:

The S&P 500 rose 46.20 points, or 1.9 per cent.

The Dow added 370.76 points, or 1.6 per cent.

The Nasdaq climbed 154.33 points, or 2.3 per cent.

The Russell 2000 advanced 42.82 points, or 3.2 per cent.

For the year:

The S&P 500 is up 25.09 points, or 1 per cent.

The Dow is up 105.70 points, or 0.5 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 103.58 points, or 1.6 per cent.

The Russell 2000 is up 32.19 points, or 2.4 per cent.
