
Today on Parliament Hill
OTTAWA – The government can expect pointed questions today after a man ran down two members of the Canadian Forces southeast of Montreal before he was shot by police and later died.
The PMO and the Mounties say the man was known to authorities and had become “radicalized” and the government suggested in the Commons it might be a “terror attack”
In the Commons yesterday, a Tory backbencher asked Prime Minister Stephen Harper about “unconfirmed reports of a possible terror attack” against the soldiers, and Harper called the reports “extremely troubling.”
Here are some other events taking place today around Parliament Hill:
— Justin Trudeau will hold the official launch of his memoirs, Common Ground, this evening at the Ottawa International Writers Festival. The memoir, which hit bookstores on Monday, tells of growing up as the eldest son of a prime minister and of struggling to emerge from under his famous father’s shadow.
— Independent MP Jean-Francois Fortin holds a press conference to make an announcement about his political future.
— The Parliamentary Budget Officer posts a report entitled “Economic and Fiscal Outlook Update 2014.”
— NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice discusses the next steps in the fight to save home mail delivery.
— Senior officials from the Department of National Defence appear at Commons committee to give a briefing on Canada’s role in NATO Operation Reassurance.
— Gov. Gen. David Johnston presents 45 decorations for bravery.
