Calgary Stampeders star Jon Cornish rewarded for big week with pair of honours

TORONTO – Calgary running back Jon Cornish was named CFL offensive player of the week and top Canadian after his stellar performance in the Stampeders’ 33-23 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week.

Cornish, from New Westminster, B.C., had 21 carries for 160 rushing yards and scored on a nine-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. He also had a 12-yard reception.

Edmonton linebacker Dexter McCoil was named defensive player of the week. He had a career-high seven tackles and added a pass knockdown and an interception to help the Eskimos to a 24-19 win over Saskatchewan.

Eskimos kick returner Kendial Lawrence took the special-teams honour after recording 150 combined return yards and scoring a touchdown.
