TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down six cents, or 1.81 per cent, to $3.26 on 4.1 million shares.
Athabasca Oil Corp. (TSX:ATH). Oil and gas. Up 21 cents, or 4.77 per cent, to $4.61 on 3.9 million shares.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace. Down three cents, or 0.82 per cent, to $3.61 on 3.8 million shares.
Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up 76 cents, or 1.99 per cent, to $38.86 on 3.7 million shares.
Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up 30 cents, or 1.42 per cent, to $21.42 on 3.6 million shares.
Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX:CVE). Oil and gas. Up 37 cents, or 1.40 per cent, to $26.74 on 3.5 million shares.
Companies reporting major news:
Canadian Pacific Railway (TSX:CP). Transportation. Up $2.93, or 1.32 per cent, to $224.58 on 647,706 shares. The company’s quarterly net income was up 23 per cent from a year ago to $400 million or $2.31 per share, missing estimates of $2.35 a share. CP also said that revenue came in at $1.67 billion, up nine per cent but missing estimates of $1.69 billion. The railway’s operating ratio, a key efficiency metric, improved more than expected to a record low of 62.8.
Canadian National Railway (TSX:CNR). Transportation. Up $1.69, or 2.28 per cent, to $75.68 on 2.1 million shares. Canada’s largest railway, reporting after markets closed, said adjusted net income in the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $1.04 per share, a penny shy of expectations although well ahead of a year ago. Its operating ratio, a measure of efficiency where lower is better, improved to an all-time low of 58.8 per cent from 59.8.
