Green Party candidate in Penticton for informal Canada Day meet and greet

PENTICTON – The South Okanagan West Kootenay riding has a new Green Party candidate.

Tara Howse will carry the Green Party banner in the upcoming federal election for the Penticton area.

Howse is a social science researcher with a criminal justice degree and a nearly-completed Masters on issues of power and trust at the community level.  She’s also a small business owner.

Howse’s focus is on justice, transparency and equitable access. She’s also concerned about the heavy corporate influence that works to impact government decisions.

Howse likes to spend time outdoors and has a passion for introducing women to the sport of mountain biking.

“You cannot be ignored when you vote. This is the single best opportunity to let the leaders of this country know what’s important to you; it is the ultimate political statement to head to the ballot and mark your choice,” she says.

Howse will be making a tour of Penticton’s Gyro Park during Canada Day festivities between noon and 2 p.m. on July 1 for an informal meet and greet.

She’ll be at Slackwater Brewing from 3 to 5 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. between RibFest and Gyro Park.

Howse joins fellow candidates Helena Konanz (Conservative), Connie Denesiuk (Liberal) Sergio Zanatta (People’s Party)  and incumbent Richard Cannings (NDP) in the federal election race for the riding, which is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
