Cartoon circulated by PQ rival’s wife shows Charest getting guillotined

ST-EUSTACHE, Que. – Premier Jean Charest says he can’t believe his rivals stooped so low as to show him getting his head cut off in a cartoon on Facebook.

The image of the Liberal leader being decapitated by a guillotine was circulated by the wife of the Parti Quebecois candidate running against Charest in his riding of Sherbrooke.

Charest says he wants to hear what PQ Leader Pauline Marois has to say about it.

The cartoon was shared on the social networking site by Mariette Fugere, wife of PQ candidate Serge Cardin, a former Bloc Quebecois MP.

The image shows a prone figure resembling Charest lying under the blade of a guillotine as a ballot-shaped blade is dropped on his neck.

The words “End of the regime” highlight the drawing which is done in red and black.

Fugere wrote in a comment accompanying the drawing that this is her hope.

Sebastien Aube, the campaign manager for Cardin, says Fugere looked at the drawing quickly and then pulled it off her page after a few minutes when she realized what it meant.

He says Fugere apologizes to anyone who was offended.
