Kamloops food bank raises nearly $40K for holiday season

KAMLOOPS – Hundreds flocked to catch a glimpse of the Canadian Pacific holiday train to watch Jim Cuddy and Tracey Brown perform, drink some hot chocolate and cheer on Santa Claus, but the holiday spirit didn't end there. 

The Tuesday evening event, set up to collect food and cash donations for the Kamloops food bank, raised nearly $40,000 and collected around 6,000 pounds of food for needy families over the holidays.

"This community is pretty amazing," Cori Slade, a coordinator at the Kamloops food bank, says.

Slade says the event wouldn't have been possible with the non-profits' core group of volunteers.

To make a food donation over the holiday season or year-round, visit the food bank at 517 Wilson street Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or drop off your donation at: Coopers, Extra Foods, Superstore, Save-on-Foods, Safeway, Costco, London Drugs and all Canada Post locations.
