KELOWNA – The official launch of Big White Ski Resort’s summer season started with wet and sometimes snowy conditions over the Canada Day long weekend.
Hiking and biking enthusiasts were greeted with a bit of snow Thursday through Saturday but the sun broke out for Sunday and Monday as the hill held the biggest opening weekend of its history with almost 800 hiking, biking and season pass sales, according to a Big White media release.
“On a weekend when, traditionally, people have already made plans it was great to see tourists, bike racers and locals alike come out in record numbers for Big White’s opening weekend despite the weather challenges,” Big White senior vice president Michael J. Ballingal says in the release.
Some of the best mountain bikers in B.C. were on hand Saturday and Sunday for the first stop in the 2019 Dunbar Cycles Summer Series.
Coming up on Saturday there is the fifth Annual Craft & Country and the Beer & Music Mountain Festival.
