‘Not a good idea’ to buy gold jewellery in parking lot, Salmon Arm RCMP warn

SALMON ARM — Police in Salmon Arm are reminding the public not to purchase gold jewellery from strangers in parking lots.

Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West says in a media release in two recent cases people discovered the gold jewellery they bought in parking lots was fake and they are out hundreds of dollars.

“Buying jewellery in a parking lot from people who are not known to you is not a good idea,” West says in the release. “If it seems too good to be true, or just a great deal in a parking lot it is probably a scam of one kind or another.”

If you are approached by an individual in a parking lot to buy jewellery, RCMP say the best course is to politely decline and call 911.
