Kelowna Rockets edge Blazers in Kamloops shootout
KAMLOOPS – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna improving its record to 19-3-0-2 on the season and sweeping a weekend home and home set with the Blazers.
Rookie Justin Kirkland scored the shootout winner while goalie Jackson Whistle stopped all three Kamloops attempts to give the Rockets the win.
Whistle faced 37 Kamloops shots and played a solid game, facing six shots in overtime and shutting the door in the shootout.
Carter Rigby and Ryan Olsen had scored for the Rockets in regulation while the Blazers got goals from Tyson Ness and Matt Needham.
The Rockets will now get set for a busy week next week as the team will play three home games, beginning with a Tuesday night game against the Vancouver Giants.
Kelowna will also host Everett on Friday and Kootenay on Saturday in the team's final home games before the Christmas break.
