UPDATE: Fatal crash that shut down northbound lanes of Highway 5 under investigation

KAMLOOPS – One of the drivers involved in the crash on Highway 5 just outside of Kamloops died this afternoon.

At approximately 4 p.m. on July 5 Kamloops RCMP responded to a report of a crash near the interchange of Highway 5 and Highway 1, where a white Toyota Prius collided head-on with a Grey Toyota Sienna.  The lone driver of the Toyota Prius was pronounced dead at scene and the lone driver of the Toyota Sienna was treated by EHS and transported to Royal Inland Hospital for further assessment, Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Thomas Dimpoulos said in a news release.

Traffic northbound into Kamloops is currently still closed. A single lane Northbound is anticipated to be opened shortly.

RCMP is currently coordinating this investigation with the BC Coroners Service.
