Counting the days, hours and seconds at the Toronto International Film Festival

TORONTO – It will take 11 days for the Toronto International Film Festival to unspool its star-studded slate of celluloid magic. While it’s hard to say how many popcorn kernels will be consumed during that time, here’s a look at some of the more calculable figures at this year’s fest (last year’s figures in brackets):

Total number of films: 372 (337)

Number of feature films: 289 (269)

Number of short films: 83 (68)

Total submissions: 4,143 (3,461)

Number of countries represented: 72 (65)

Number of debut features: 75 (61)

Length of longest film: Japan’s “Penance” at 4.5 hours (“The Story of Film: An Odyssey” at 15 hours)

Length of shortest film: 100 seconds, “Pacific Sun” (one minute — a tie between “349 (for Sol LeWitt)” and “Ars Colonia”)

Number of Canadian features, including co-productions: 32 (34)

Number of Canadian shorts, including co-productions: 47 (49)
