Elijah Beauregard to finally be laid to rest

KELOWNA – Thanks to social media pressure, Elijah Beauregard will finally be laid to rest.

On July 12, a GoFundMe page was set up to pay for Beauregard's funeral. On Facebook, Emily Steele, Beauregard's mother, noted they'd been having trouble getting the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Children and Family Development to help cover the cost of her son's cremation and burial.

Beauregard, 16, died on June 30 from a stabbing injuries. No charges have been laid in the case.

According to Steele, the GoFundMe page, coupled with help from government officials and Victim Services, convinced the ministries to cover the costs of the funeral. Steele said the GoFundMe page will be shut down and all the collected money will be donated.

In one day, the GoFundMe page raised $765. Donations are currently disabled.
