Typecasting? Tom Hanks has deal for story collection inspired in part by his typewriters

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Talk about typecasting: Tom Hanks has a book deal for a collection of stories inspired in part by his personal collection of typewriters.

Publisher Alfred A. Knopf announced Monday that it has an agreement with the Oscar-winning actor. The book is currently untitled and no publication date has been set. Financial terms were not disclosed.

In a statement released by Knopf, the 58-year-old Hanks said he had been collecting typewriters since 1978 and that his upcoming collection would feature stories “that might have been written on one of them.”

Hanks’ “Alan Bean Plus Four,” the story of four friends who travel to the moon, was recently published in The New Yorker.
