iN VIDEO: Cyclists wipe out on Highway 97

PENTICTON – Cyclists had a close call on the highway this morning as the 2019 Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan race got underway.

The annual competition started at Gyro Park in Penticton at 7 a.m. on July 14. Thousands of cyclists wind their way through Summerland, Oliver, and Penticton throughout the day-long event using Highway 97.

But the race got off to a rough start in the morning. Shaun Siebs posted a video on Facebook showing several cyclists wiping out on Highway 97 and spilling onto the road with oncoming traffic. Luckily Siebs swerved out of the way and no one was hurt.

The race is expected to wrap up at 4 p.m. today at Gyro Park.
