MEXICO CITY – A coalition of Mexican business and civic groups has taken out full-page newspaper ads defending court challenges to one of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s pet projects, a new Mexico City airport.
López Obrador called the groups “Mexicans For Corruption.” That was a play on the name of one organization called “Mexicans Against Corruption,” which is backed by prominent businessmen.
Their lawsuits claim López Obrador is wasting money and violating rules by building the new airport at a military base, while abandoning the previous administration’s partly built terminal on a former lakebed.
The coalition ads Wednesday stated that that, “We will continue to fight in court for fulfilment of the law and the correct uses of public funds.’”
