West Kelowna vet seeks sanctuary for injured fawn

WEST KELOWNA – An effort to keep a young deer in need of medical care alive and well is underway in West Kelowna.

“We have a small deer that we have named Gilbert who has come here and he needs some help,” a Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital representative wrote in a Facebook post.

“He has an injured leg that will be requiring surgery.”

Dr. Moshe Oz is providing everything medically for the creature but going forward they need to find a licenced sanctuary to give him a home or they will be forced to turn the deer over the Conservation Officer Service where it will be euthanized.

“If you know of any sanctuaries that can help us help Gilbert please call the office and let us know,” they said. “Time is of the essence for us to help this baby deer.”

There is no rehabilitation centre for wild animals in the Okanagan. The closest facility is the B.C. Wildlife Park in Kamloops where space is often limited.
