Riot police protect FIFA chief Blatter from student demonstrators at university lecture hall

ZURICH – FIFA President Sepp Blatter has been protected by riot police from student demonstrators while making a speech at a university in the football body’s home city.

Zurich daily 20 Minuten published pictures of students letting off a red smoke bomb inside ETH university near a hall where Blatter spoke late Tuesday. His lecture was on the subject, “Football as a school of life.”

Police in riot gear prevented up to 100 demonstrators getting access to the lecture hall, the newspaper reported.

Students gathered outside the university building in central Zurich displayed a banner saying: “Blatter verjagen. FIFA enteignen,” translated as “Chase Blatter out. Take FIFA’s money away.”

No arrests were reported.
