Mulcair puts NDP on notice: road to 2015 election starts now

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Tom Mulcair is putting New Democrats on notice: the road to the next election starts now.

And the federal NDP leader is wasting no time, rallying his troops with a stinging indictment ofPrime Minister Stephen Harper’s record.

Mulcair accuses Harper of abandoning or slashing cherished social programs like old age security, employment insurance and universal public health care, while dishing out massive tax cuts for well-connected insiders and some of the country’s worst polluters.

He says the Canada where people could make decent wages to support their families and retire with dignity is becoming unrecognizable under Harper’s Conservatives.

Mulcair denounces the Conservatives as inept fiscal managers who refuse to accept accountability, despite a “spring full of scandals” such as the botched procurement of F-35 fighter jets.

Mulcair wants his party to be ready by the fall of 2014 for an election he predicts will come in the spring of 2015.
