West Vancouver police search for guns discarded near elementary school

VANCOUVER – West Vancouver police are scouring an area near a local elementary school where they believe two loaded guns were discarded.

Police say a distraught man knocked on the door of a home on Wednesday night, asking the residents to call police.

When officers arrived, they arrested the man under the provincial Mental Health Act.

Police were also told that two loaded pistols were left behind in a treed or green space area before they were called.

They say the man is being co-operative, but he hasn’t been able to give police an accurate location of where the guns were discarded.

Police say there is no threat to the public, and classes are continuing at West Bay Elementary School, but outdoor activities have been temporarily suspended.
