Mediator says tentative agreement has been reached in Atlanta Symphony labour dispute

ATLANTA – A federal mediator says a tentative agreement has been reached in a labour dispute involving the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service said late Friday that ratification of the agreement will require approval of the musicians’ union and the governing board of the Woodruff Arts Center.
Details of the deal were not released.
Much of the dispute centred on the size of the orchestra, with players arguing a further reduction in their ranks would affect the quality of the Grammy-winning orchestra. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/1quw8XH ) the orchestra was trimmed from 95 to 88 full-time players in the 2012 collective bargaining agreement.
Negotiations had been underway for 10 months and included a two-month player lockout.
