Unsafe levels of E. coli reported at three Shuswap campgrounds

SHUSWAP – An E. coli outbreak at three Shuswap Lake campgrounds is keeping people out of the water.

Water tests from the Sandy Point, Glen Echo and Pierre's Point campgrounds have come back with a high level of E.Coli bacteria.

Notices from the Adam's Lake Indian Band and the First Nations Health Authority state water testing showed the bacteria levels are too dangerous for swimming and other water contact activities.

A notice also warns people at the Sandy Point campground to stay off the nearby trails and reminds parents to keep children out of the treed area near the water.

There has been no word yet as to the cause of the E. coli outbreak or when the areas will be safe for swimming again.
