Traffic stop leads Penticton RCMP to fake IDs and stolen property
PENTICTON – Penticton police arrested a man for prohibited driving earlier this month and wound up seizing drugs and stolen property.
Devon Dean White was arrested for prohibited driving and possession of a controlled substance on July 14 and when officers searched his vehicle they found 30 pieces of identification, as well as property suspected to have been stolen from Apex Ski Resort on July 12 or 13, according to an RCMP media release. Police don't say what the controlled substance was.
RCMP searched White's apartment on Sydney Street along with a U-haul truck on July 16 and 17 and found more stolen identification along with stolen documents. Police believe they were being used for identity theft.
Officers also found a dirt bike stolen from Okanagan Falls on July 12, property from the Apex resort break-in, stolen property from Edge Water Marina in Peachland and stolen cheques from Roll N Stones in Penticton.
RCMP say White appeared in court on July 15 and will remain in custody until July 31. As the investigation continues, police expect more charges will be laid.
