TORONTO – Rob Ford’s office says the Toronto mayor has cancelled plans to attend the city’s Remembrance Day ceremony due to his ongoing battle with cancer.
Chief of staff Dan Jacobs says in an email that Ford will not be among the local politicians attending the service at Toronto’s Old City Hall cenotaph.
Ford’s brother Doug says “Everyone there would want Rob to rest,” and told TV station CP24 the mayor is now recovering at home after undergoing a third round of chemotherapy.
Jacobs says a local councillor will speak on Ford’s behalf.
Doctors discovered a rare and aggressive cancer in Ford’s abdomen in September.
Mayor-elect John Tory, who will take office Dec. 2, will be attending the ceremony.
