Kamloops man to be sentenced for stabbing friend to death

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops man who killed his friend in a drunken dispute last year will be sentenced in the new year.

Torbin Alec pleaded guilty to manslaughter after stabbing Jesse Seymour to death at a party on Columbia Street in July 2012.

Alec was initially charged with second degree murder and went to trial in Kamloops in October. The court heard during the trial that the two men were friends who got into a disupte about a girl on the night of the incident. The trial ended early when Alec pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. A second degree murder conviction comes with a mandatory life imprisonment, while manslaughter has no minimum sentence.

Alec is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 17, 2014.
