Woman’s body found in suitcase on B.C. island; son arrested and charged

RICHMOND, B.C. – Police in British Columbia say a 25-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the discovery of his mother’s remains in a suitcase.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound of B.C.’s Integrated Homicide Investigation team says Yuan Xi Tang has been charged with first degree murder and counselling to commit an indictable offence.

Police say the suspect’s mother Lianjie Guo, 47, went missing from Richmond, B.C., June 7 and police discovered her remains in a suitcase on Harwood Island, near the community of Powell River, in July.

Police say the suspect is due to appear in court next week.
