Police say one man dead, another arrested after fight in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY, B.C. – Homicide investigators say a witness to a murder in Surrey, B.C., was instrumental in the quick arrest of a suspect.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation team says RCMP were called to a report of a fight in a strip mall parking lot in the city’s Newton neighbourhood early Thursday morning.

When officers arrived they found a man dead and the suspect gone.

A police statement says many people witnessed the altercation and one of those individuals followed the suspect and reported the location to officers.

A 33-year-old man was arrested a few blocks away minutes after the fight and officers also found a weapon that may have been used in the crime.

Police say the victim hasn’t yet been identified and it hasn’t been determined if the men knew each other or if there are gang or drug connections to the crime.
