Broadway-bound Sept. 11 musical ‘Come From Away’ to debut in Toronto Nov. 15

TORONTO – A musical about the grounding of planes in Gander, N.L., following the Sept. 11 attacks will debut in Toronto this fall.

“Come From Away” will have its Canadian premiere at the Royal Alexandra Theatre on Nov. 15.

Performances will run through Jan. 8, 2017 before the production moves to Broadway next February.

Prior to arriving in Toronto, the production will be onstage at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. from Sept. 2 to Oct. 9.

“Come From Away” tells the story of the 38 passenger planes diverted to Gander after the 9/11 terror attacks closed U.S. air space, doubling the population of the small town in the process.

Canadian husband-and-wife team Irene Sankoff and David Hein wrote the book, music and lyrics for the production, which will star Newfoundland and Labrador native Petrina Bromley.

She is currently appearing in the Stratford Festival production of “As You Like It.”

“Come From Away” was originally co-produced in 2015 by La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theater.
