Spectra, BG partner in plan to build natural gas pipeline across B.C.
CALGARY – Spectra Energy and U.K.-based BG Group are partnering up to build a natural gas pipeline across northern B.C.
The 850-kilometre pipeline would connect vast natural gas fields in the province’s northeast to the site of a possible liquefied natural gas terminal at the port of Prince Rupert, B.C.
Houston-based Spectra (NYSE:SE) says there is enough natural gas in B.C. to meet domestic demand and export the gas in liquid form to energy-hungry Asian countries.
The line is expected to have a capacity of about 4.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day and come into service in 2019.
Spectra says it currently transports 60 per cent of the natural gas produced in British Columbia
