27 killed, 11 injured in bus accident in remote Nepal region

KATHMANDU, Nepal – Police in Nepal say a bus has veered off a mountain highway in the country’s west, killing at least 27 people and injuring another 11.

Police say the accident took place before dawn today.

Rescuers have been sent to the area near Parkha village, about 400 kilometres northwest of the capital Kathmandu.

The area is a remote mountainous region.

The cause of the crash in which the bus rolled about 300 metres before it landed in a river was not immediately known.

Bus accidents in Nepal are mostly blamed on both poorly maintained vehicles and roads.
