Offender sentenced after lawyer takes him back
PENTICTON – A lawyer and his client reconciled their differences and accepted a 44-month sentence with 85 days already served.
Andrew Robert Hardenstine, 33, will do four years of hard time for illegal firearms, drug possessions and other crimes committed in mid-September. The sentence was a joint submission made between Crown prosecutor John Swanson and defence attorney Robert Maxwell.
In a previous court session Maxwell declined to represent Hardenstine over disagreements about sentencing and evidence. This left Swanson and Provincial Court Judge Gregory Koturbash to negotiate how to proceed.
The judge told Hardenstine he would need to seek a new lawyer but Maxwell made up with his client and the case proceeded to its conclusion on Thursday.
Hardenstine was busted Sept. 11 on Roy Avenue for carrying a pistol, an automatic rifle, ammo and a bottle of GHB, also known as the date rape drug. He fled officers on his motorcycle but collided with an unmarked police car and was apprehended.
