Running back Carl Volny returns from injury to Bomber offence Friday
WINNIPEG – Running back Carl Volny is glad to be playing football again for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Volny is returning to action Friday in Calgary almost year after a year recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Winnipeg took Volny in the 2011 CFL draft and planned to use him as its backup tailback last year, but his debut season was cut short when he was hurt in a Sept. 24 game against Toronto. He had entered the game for injured starter Fred Reid and rushed for 59 yards before leaving the game.
Volny was born in Montreal, although he spent most of his life in the United States and played in the NCAA for Central Michigan.
Bomber coach Tim Burke says Volny will be playing special teams but also will see action as a tailback and fullback on offence.
He says Volny will allow the Bombers to put a little more pressure on the opposing defence than they have in the past.
