US stocks rise early in wake of strong Asian markets, improved business confidence in Germany

U.S. stocks rose in early trading in line with gains from Asian markets and thanks to improvement in German business confidence.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose six points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,069 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time Monday.

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 40 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,850.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.33 per cent.
