LAVINGTON – A 29-year-old dirt biker was found dead in Lavington on Saturday morning.
According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release the body of a 29-year-old man was discovered by a member of the public around 9 a.m. Aug. 10, near the intersection of Park Lane and Springfield Road, Lavington. The deceased man was lying near a damaged dirt bike partially in some bushes.
The release states the 29-year-old had been driving the dirt bike, which was not licenced for use on the street and had no headlight, along Springfield Road when he lost control, slid off the road and struck his head. The driver was not wearing a helmet.
"From evidence at the scene, it appears the incident may have occurred the previous evening around 11 p.m." RCMP Cpl Tania Finn said in the release. "The man lived in the area and the dirt bike did not have a headlight for night time operation."
The release says there is no indication that another vehicle was involved. The B.C. Coroner Service and the RCMP will continue to investigate to determine if speed or alcohol were factors.
